Synergy, logistics operator of the group, Hutchison Ports, and Asecomex have presented today, Wednesday, January 26, a new rail service from the terminal burgos of Villafría. This means that, from now on, Synergy may perform from this site, the work that lends itself from the rest of its rail corridors with a source or destination to the Port of Barcelona: cartage, customs procedures, stock containers, cross-docking and storage, and cleaning and repair of containers, among others.
With availability zone “Lame” for the pre-dispatch of containers and storage area “reefer”, Synergy strengthens and consolidates its position in the northern half of the peninsula, where it operates an Intermodal Terminal of Navarre (Noain) since 2013 and in the Container Terminal of Miranda de Ebro (Burgos) from 2018. The evolution of the latter is to pay with a remarkable increase of traffic thanks to the increasing confidence of companies and freight forwarders, who value particularly have a partner neutral dump in the provision of logistics solutions that are more efficient and versatile.
The network of intermodal connections “port-to-door” with the Port of Barcelona, which also extends to the south of France, allows you to greatly reduce transit times and contributes to the saving of pollutant emissions, in line with the community strategy “EU Green Deal”. In addition, it provides security to the customers in the face of difficulties faced by the logistics chain, such as the lack of drivers, fuel prices and the rest of the problems that plague the international transport.
For Damià Calvet, president of the Port of Barcelona, “the launch of this rail service direct to containers with Villafria is excellent news. The Port of Barcelona moves currently more than 15% of their containers by rail, and the direct line to Burgos will make this percentage is even greater. We are promoting sustainable mobility, decarbonization. The future passes by the railroad, and we will continue to support projects like the Synergy”.
It is worth noting, that the infrastructure and services of Synergy achieved a global dimension thanks to the network of Hutchison Ports, terminalista pioneer present in 52 terminals and 26 countries, that provides to the Port of Barcelona more than 200 connections to ports all over the world. In its facilities highlights the Terminal BEST, the most technologically-advanced of Spain, that has the terminal railway's largest ports of the Mediterranean, with 8 routes of 750 meters that connects the worldwide traffic to Europe via the Mediterranean and vice versa.
